Dublin annihilated Westmeath at Parnell Park to retain their Allianz NFL Division One status and heap further misery on the already-relegated Lakesmen.

Conal Keaney and Pat Burke hit goals in the first half for the Dubs as they built up an impressive lead of 2-15 to 0-04 by the interval.

Westmeath attacker Dennis Glennon, who finished with 0-06 to his name, had a 31st-minute penalty saved by Stephen Cluxton.

Second-half majors from Ciaran Whelan, Darren Magee and Burke rounded off the rout.

Dublin started with Alan Brogan in their ranks for the first time in this campaign, but were unable to call on any of the Leinster U-21 conquerors as they prepare for their All-Ireland semi-final date with Cork at Semple Stadium next Saturday.

The Metropolitans wasted no time in getting down to the task at hand and Keaney's goal after 16 minutes had them 1-07 to 0-02 ahead. The Ballyboden St Enda's clubman would go on to accrue an impressive personal tally of 1-07.

Burke and Magee were stars of Kilmacud Crokes' successful All-Ireland Club SFC campaign, and the return of the Crokes contingent certainly boosted the Dubs in recent weeks as draws with Mayo and Kerry put them into a position to prevent an immediate return to Division Two.

Westmeath won the Division Two final against the Dubs last year, but they return to where they came without a point to their name and a lot of problems to address ahead of the Championship.
