Inter-county managers have called for players feigning injury to be seriously punished, writes RTÉ Sport's Jonathan Mullin.
Representatives of the inter-county managers met last night with two of the architects of the GAA's experimental rules, Pat Daly and Liam O'Neill, and made a number of recommendations.
O’Neill said: 'We were given a very strong message that the managers wanted players who were feigning injury to be treated more seriously.
‘It's currently a cautionable offence and always has been. Managers want us to go further and it's definitely something we will consider.’
John O'Mahony (Mayo), John Evans (Tipperary), Mike McNamara (Clare), Peter McDonnell (Armagh), Sambo McNaughten (Antrim) and Eamon McEneaney (Louth) were the six managers in attendance.
They were joined by the chairman and secretary of the Referees' Committee and the CCCC.
O’Neill said: ‘We were left in no doubt last night that managers are engaging with the new rules and are determined to work through with this. Good managers want their players protected and want their players to have a chance to play.
‘Last night's meeting confirmed the very positive response we have got from the inter-county managers. They accept that what we are trying to do is going in the right direction.
‘We're listening to people and where possible we're going to take
their views on board.’
