St Mary's 0-10 Down 3-16

St Mary's were comprehensively beaten at Pairc Esler in Newry as Down began their defence of the Gaelic Life Dr McKenna Cup in fine fashion.

Ross Carr's side took over in the second half, netting goals through Cathal Magee (two) and John Fegan.

Mary's had led 0-08 to 0-07 at half-time with Barry McGoldrick scoring five of their points.

But the students' scores dried up and despite having John Boyle and Stephen Kearney both yellow carded and replaced under the new rules, Down still prevailed.

Fermanagh 0-10 Derry 1-07

Fermanagh and Derry played out an entertaining draw in their McKenna Cup opener at Enniskillen.

With Seamus Ryder and Enda Ferris kicking two points apiece, Fermanagh were fully deserving of their 0-05 to 0-01 half-time lead.

But after losing Niall Bradley and Patsy Bradley to yellow cards, Derry rallied and scored 1-03 in a four-minute spell with Joe Diver the goal-scorer.

It took a late point from Ciaran McElroy to get Fermanagh back level. Michael Jones was also yellow-carded for the hosts.

UUJ 0-13 Donegal 3-14

Stephen Griffin scored 1-07 for Donegal in their Gaelic Life Dr McKenna Cup opener at Ballybofey.

Griffin, a championship debutant last year, sandwiched a second half penalty in between goals from Donegal captain Brian Roper and Ross Wherrity.

UUJ were only 0-09 to 0-05 behind at half-time but despite the best efforts of top-scorer Ciaran Donnelly, who kicked eight frees, the students were second best.

Paddy McDaid saw yellow for Donegal, while UUJ duo Stephen McAleer and Kieran Nolan were also 'sent off' and replaced.

Armagh 0-12 Antrim 0-10

Ryan Henderson hit four points as Armagh posted a Dr McKenna Cup win over Antrim at the Athletic Grounds.

Four points in a row from Malachy Mackin, Brian Mallon, JP Donnelly and Conor Clarke put the Orchard men into a commanding position, after they led 0-06 to 0-03 at half-time.

In new manager Liam Bradley's first game in charge, Antrim had managed to level the tie at 0-07 apiece but yellow cards for Conor McGoldrick and Aidan Gallagher made it very difficult and Armagh grinded out a victory.
