Fergal O’Donnell has been appointed to the vacant senior football post in Roscommon after he was ratified at a County Board meeting on Thursday night.
O’Donnell, who masterminded Roscommon’s 2006 All-Ireland minor success, is the county’s fourth manager this year and follows in the footsteps of Michael Ryan, Paul Earley and John Maughan.
The new man in charge is recognised as a fans favourite, having also captained the Rossies to their last Connacht SFC title in 2001.
The former midfielder is likely to be joined by the selectors who assisted him in the minor set-up, namely Declan Hoare, Ross Shannon, Stephen Bohan and Mark Dowd.
