Luke Dempsey called time on his four-year stint as Longford manager tonight after exiting the Qualifiers following a two-point loss to Laois at Pearse Park.
Despite being happy with the commitment of his players, the Westmeath native felt that it was time to call it a day after he had failed to deliver silverware in 2008.
'I was treated well by the County Board, but I vowed that if I didn't help to bring home silverware for Longford this year, even the O'Byrne Cup, that I would be leaving after this campaign,' Dempsey said.
Dempsey made his announcement to the players in the dressing room following the 1-10 to 0-11 defeat to Laois.
