The Australian Football League has asked the GAA for more time to select a second venue for this year's International Rules series.
The AFL said they are close to finalising the venues for both Tests but a final decision on the arrangements for the two games is not expected for a few days.
In a statement released today, the GAA said: '[We have] agreed to accede to the AFL request for a little more time and it is hopeful that the series will resume in October and that relevant details can be announced by next Thursday.'
It is understood that as the majority of big match venues in Australia will host Rugby League World Cup matches at the same time, the AFL are having difficulty tying down a second venue.
Since the series was revived in 1998 after an absence of eight years, Ireland and Australia have played each other twice in each series.
Australia won the the last series but it was marred by violent scenes in the second Test at Croke Park.
