Galway are out on their own at the top of NFL Division One after they had the legs on Tyrone in an exciting encounter at Pearse Stadium.
Aided by Michael Meehan's contribution of 1-05, the Tribesmen secured their third league win on the trot despite a battling performance from the visitors.
Meehan (eight minutes) and the returning Sean Cavanagh (17) swapped goals as the sides went in at the break at 1-04 apiece.
Owen Mulligan, who set up a goal for Colm McCullagh, then got his shooting boots on to edge Tyrone ahead, but late points from Niall Coleman, Gary Sice and Meehan saw Galway to victory.
Tyrone began with the breeze at their backs, but they were 1-01 to 0-00 behind within nine minutes of the throw-in.
Continuing where he left off when he hit 1-05 against Kildare a fortnight ago, Galway full-forward Meehan sent off a fifth-minute free before producing a classy finish for his goal.
Galway manager Liam Sammon made a change at centre-back soon after with David Finnegan coming on for Gareth Bradshaw.
Tyrone's riposte was spearheaded by former All-Star Cavanagh, who was making his first appearance of the season.
As the first half wore on, Cavanagh began to get on the ball more and cause trouble for the Galway half-back line.
One trademark burst in towards the hosts' square and a pass from Raymond Mulgrew handed the Moy clubman his goal chance which he took with aplomb.
Points from Ryan Mellon, McCullagh and Mulligan shot Tyrone into a 1-03 to 1-01 lead, but Galway were soon back on terms thanks to overs from wing forward Eddie Hoare and attack-minded corner back Sice.
The pace dipped in the remaining ten minutes of the half with Tommy McGuigan and Meehan swapping the only other points - although Galway goalkeeper Adrian Faherty had to be on his toes to deny McCullagh from close range.
In a high quality second half, Galway opened strongly with points from substitute Sean Armstrong (0-02) and Meehan, the two outstanding forwards on Galway's 2005 All-Ireland-winning U-21 team.
Tyrone were struggling to take their points, but a neat offload from Mulligan set McCullagh into space and he made no mistake for his goal, beating Faherty with a clinical strike.
Galway wrestled back control of the game with white flags from Fiachra Breathnach, Hoare and Meehan (free) for a 1-10 to 2-04 score-line.
But Tyrone then found another gear and a concerted spell of pressure on the Galway half yielded points for Mulgrew and Niall Gormley.
The action swung back up to league newcomer Jonathan Curran's goals where Darren Mullahy, the Galway number seven, might have done better when presented with a goal chance.
The game swung in Tyrone's favour coming up to the hour mark when Mulligan landed two successive points to put the Red Hands into a 2-08 to 1-10 lead.
Tommy McGuigan drove over a fine point to make things even better for Mickey Harte's side, however, as they have shown in recent weeks, Galway love to come with a final flourish.
The newly-crowned Connacht FBD League champions did just that again as midfielder Coleman strode forward to pick off a brace of points and Sice also popped up with a well-taken score from play.
That left Galway with a two-point lead to defend and from one of their last attacks, a Meehan shot had to be blocked over the crossbar by Curran as Tyrone succumbed to their second defeat in this year's league.
