A strong defensive display from All-Ireland champions Kerry helped them overcome Tyrone in tonight's Allianz NFL Division 1 clash in Tralee.

With Kieran Donaghy reveling under the high ball, two points apiece from Bryan Sheehan and Sean O'Sullivan saw Kerry establish an early lead.

They were 0-08 to 0-05 ahead at half-time despite hitting some poor wides.

Frees from Colm McCullagh and Owen Mulligan kept Tyrone in the hunt but their late push for a goal was in vain as Kerry held on for their first league win.
