There were more bookings than scores at Healy Park as Tyrone and Kildare played out a hard-fought draw in Allianz NFL Division One.
Thirteen players earned yellow cards, but all Kildare manager Kieran McGeeney will want to remember from this tie is Padraig Mullarkey's late, levelling goal.
Three Colm McCullagh points helped Tyrone lead 0-05 to 0-03 at half-time.
But despite the introduction of Owen Mulligan, the Red Hands disappointed in the second half.
Kildare substitute Alan Smith raced down the right flank to play in Mullarkey for his crucial goal.
Tyrone, who included three league debutants, shot three early wides before a long ball from Raymond Mulgrew teed up Enda McGinley for a sixth minute goal chance, but Kildare goalkeeper Thomas Corley was equal to his shot.
Mickey Harte's men went 0-02 to 0-00 in front when Kevin Hughes, who left-footed over after a Dermot Carlin pass, and McCullagh (free) both found the target.
Kildare opened their account in the 14th minute through John Doyle (free) before McCullagh rifled over again at the other end.
Smart play from Tommy McGuigan, who played a '45' in short, set up a point for Enda McGinley and Tyrone chalked up their fifth point through Dromore clubman McCullagh before Kildare closed out the half with two scores from Doyle and Ronan Sweeney.
In what was a poor quality first half, Kildare operated a two-man full-forward line for much of the half with Sweeney being joined up front by Dermot Earley.
Mullarkey was moved into the full-forward line for the closing minutes of the half but when handed a very good chance for a goal, he was wide of the mark with only John Devine to beat.
Doyle, with Mullarkey providing the assist, fired over the opening point of the second half to close the gap to the minimum.
After a listless few minutes, some neat build-up play involving Hughes, PJ Quinn and McGuigan sent Mulgrew through for a well-taken point from a difficult angle.
The scores soon dried up for both sides with Kildare particularly guilty of some poor shooting. There were also a few off-the-ball scuffles which resulted in yellow cards.
By the hour mark, both sides had hit nine wides, but Tyrone got back on track in the 65th minute when McGuigan pointed after good work from Damian McCaul and McGinley.
However, Kildare got back on terms just four minutes later when Smith's hard work and clever ball in from the flank was palmed to the net by Mullarkey.
Back on terms, McGeeney's side almost took the lead in injury-time when centre-forward Michael Conway lined up a late free, but his shot tailed off and former All Star Mulligan also dropped a free short as Tyrone pressed for the winner in front of a 3,695-strong crowd.
