Carlow's new senior football Boss Paul Bealin has not given up hope on wooing star midfielder Thomas Walsh back to the county colours.

Walsh left the Barrowsiders in controversial circumstances last year with Carlow County Chairman, Pat Deering, claiming that the transfer had 'Mick O'Dwyer written all over it.'

Walsh went on to assist Wicklow in the Championship having eventually succeeded in guiding his prolonged transfer through Leinster Council, while he also helped the Garden County win the Tommy Murphy Cup.

Bealin said: 'I've not yet had a chance to speak to Thomas for it's been quite a busy period since I took over in Carlow. With the Christmas period, and having so many players to meet to persuade them back into the fold, it has left us with little spare time.

'We've also had a series of trial games, while now we've up to 30 players in training in preparation for next Sunday's O'Byrne Cup opener with Kilkenny.'

But Bealin sees time running out in having Walsh make a return.

He said: 'I will be talking with Thomas this week. I'm not sure whether Thomas is fully committed to Wicklow for this year, but it's in our interests to talk to him.

'Thomas is a huge player out of midfield. I'm anxious to have him as part of my squad. This week I hope to persuade him to return to his native county. I'll be leaving no stone unturned to change things around.'
