The Cork County Board has appointed Teddy Holland of Clonakilty as senior football manager, but the threat of a player strike still looms in the Rebel County.

Holland replaces Billy Morgan, who quit the post over plans to put committee appointed selectors in place in both the hurling and football senior inter-county team set-ups.

Although Holland will have an input into picking his selectors, Board delegates voted by a majority of over 2-1 to uphold the recent decision to remove from the senior inter-county managers the right to choose their own backroom teams.

However, the senior Cork hurling and football panels issued a statement soon after saying that the issue had not been addressed properly and that they 'did not want to play any part under the system as it stands'.

There has been considerable anger among the players about comments made by officials regarding their attitude to club functions and events within the county.

Holland is a former senior and under-21 selector and has been given a two-year term.
