Ken Casey's eligibilty to play for Offaly in the NFL has been questioned by the Longford County Board

Longford County Board have confirmed they have lodged an objection with Croke Park following Offaly's decision to play Ken Casey in last Sunday's Allianz National Football League clash, which ended in a draw.

If Croke Park find that Casey should not have played in that game due to suspension, he could face a lengthy ban from the game.

Casey was sent off after receiving two yellow cards in a Leinster U-21 Championship match by Meath referee Joey Curley two weeks ago, and was also reported for verbally abusing the referee.

He received a four-week suspension dating from 18 February, but Offaly clearly felt that he was eligible to play in the league match last Sunday as it was a different competition.

If Longford win the objection, they could get both points from last weekend's game, which could have a major impact on the final outcome of Division 2A of the NFL.

Longford chairman Martin Skelly confirmed that the objection had been lodged, saying: 'It has gone to Croke Park, but we don’t want to say any more about it than that for now.'
