Patrick Kennedy previews this weekend's Tommy Murphy Cup semi-finals.
Louth are looking to making an already good year even better when they take on Antrim for a place in the Tommy Murphy Cup final at Dundalk on Saturday, throw-in at 2.00pm.
The men from the Wee County already have a NFL Division Two title under their belts and brought Tyrone to a replay in the All-Ireland SFC qualifiers to boot. If they can add the Murphy title to their season's haul then they can claim to be the most improved side in the country this year.
JP Rooney and Shane Lennon have the ability to kick them through to the final.
Antrim have been hit by the withdrawal of ten of their panel following their elimination from the All-Ireland SFC at the hands of Clare back in June. They have shown little to suggest that they can upset the Louth side on their home turf and this should be their last outing of the year.
Verdict: Louth
The battle of the minnows takes place at Tullamore on Sunday afternoon as Carlow and Leitrim square up to each other with a place in the Tommy Murphy Cup final at stake, throw-in at 1.00pm.
This is what the Tommy Murphy Cup should be about. With a rare Croke Park date the prize, both counties should be well up for it and a good, competitive game of football will, hopefully, ensue.
Carlow's chances of progression are linked directly to the ability of Simon Rea to inflict terror on Leitrim backs. Johnny Kavanagh aided him by kicking 1-02 against London but Leitrim will know that if they stop Rea they will stop Carlow.
Leitrim have a stronger team unit and are not as dependent on a single player as much as Carlow are on Rea. If they can attack Carlow from the off they will be well on their way to a Croke Park appearance.
Verdict: Leitrim
