Paddy O'Rourke has lost his job as the Down senior football manager.

O'Rourke, who has held the position for the last four years, was looking for a re-appointment.

However, the Down County Board last night voted in favour of appointing a new manager.

The county board and its management committee will now undertake this process.

Down were knocked out of this year’s All-Ireland SFC by Sligo, losing their qualifier in Markievicz Park by 1-07 to 0-04.

O'Rourke's charges managed to score only one point in the second half of that game.

Possible successors include St Gall's boss John Rafferty, former Down hurling manager Frank Dawson and former Armagh boss Brian McAlinden.

Former Down stars James McCartan, Ross Carr and Mickey Linden, who all played on the All-Ireland winning teams on the 1990s, have also been linked with the post.
