Dublin looks likely to start the defence of their Leinster SFC title next month without midfielder Darren Magee.

The Kilmacud Crokes clubman has been suffering from a hand injury - a possible broken wrist - since February and a scan later this week will reveal the extent of the damage.

Ironically, Magee's Kilmacud colleague Pat Burke, who made appearances in the National League against Mayo and Fermanagh, is currently recovering from a broken bone in his wrist.

Magee's injury may require surgery meaning Ciaran Whelan could be partnered by Shane Ryan at centre-field for the Dubs' Leinster championship opener against Longford on June 4.

Having lined out alongside Whelan in the NFL ties with Tyrone and Monaghan, newcomer Denis Bastick would also be an able replacement.
