Donegal players Kevin Cassidy and Eamon McGee have been sensationally dropped from the senior panel just four days ahead of Sunday's Allianz NFL Division Two final with Louth.

County chairman Charlie O'Donnell has confirmed that 2002 All Star Cassidy and his club colleague McGee have been asked to leave the panel for an alleged breach of discipline, and that they are off the squad for the rest of the year.

The chairman also said that the County Executive fully backed the manager's decision.

The news is a major bombshell, coming in the build-up to Donegal's Division Two decider with Louth at Cavan's Kingspan Breffni Park.

And it comes a mere two weeks after another defender, Shane Carr, left the panel, for what was rumoured at the time to be the management's lack of action on discipline.

Both Cassidy and McGee were regular members of the team and were the county's two best players in last weekend's NFL semi-final victory over Westmeath.
