Kildare and Wexford meet in Newbridge
Kildare and Wexford meet in Newbridge

Allianz NFL Division 1B

Kildare v Wexford. Sunday at 3.30pm, Newbridge.

Both sides are facing the prospect of relegation and victory on Sunday may not even be enough to prevent it for Wexford.

Kildare were lucky to defeat 14-man Meath last weekend and Wexford were blown away by an awesome Galway full-forward line. Wexford have been dire this year and need to win here if they are to have any confidence heading into the Championship.

Kildare have already ridden their luck in this year's campaign and it should catch up with them on Sunday as they face a Wexford side that hold no fear of the Lilywhites.

Verdict: Wexford

Galway v Meath, Sunday at 3.30pm, Pearse Stadium.

The Tribesmen will hope to further frustrate a Meath side who were unfortunate to lose out to Kildare last weekend.

The Royals were reduced to 14 men but held out until the very end of the game. Such resilience will be vital as they face possibly the strongest full-forward line in the competition.

Joyce, Meehan and Savage destroyed Wexford last weekend and it's hard to see where they will accommodate Seán Armstrong on his return from club duties with Salthill-Knocknacarra.

Galway's forwards are stronger than Meath's and that will prove the difference at the full-time whistle.

Verdict: Galway

Derry v Down. Sunday at 3.30, Ballinascreen.

Derry were disappointing in the clash with Laois last week and need to emerge victorious from this tie to guarantee their spot in the semi-finals.

Down will be without talisman Benny Coulter for the game and that should be enough to see Derry end their hopes of progressing to the business end of the competition.

Coulter has been instrumental in everything that Down have done since he made the panel for the first time and they may have become too reliant on his ability.

Derry should come through this encounter with a few points to spare.

Verdict: Derry

Armagh v Laois. Sunday at 2.30pm, Crossmaglen.

Laois have never had a better chance of defeating an Ulster side on their own ground than when they face the Orchardmen on Sunday.

Armagh need to win this one to end their season on a high. They still have a mathematical chance of making the semis but they should be happy enough to escape from a possible relegation dogfight. They will prove much more competitive than in recent weeks.

Laois on the other hand are coming in off any ease win over Derry and may be ripe for the picking. Armagh might just edge this one out.

Verdict: Armagh
