Allianz NFL Division 2B round-up

Westmeath continue to lead the way in NFL Division 2B after picking up their third win on the trot - a 0-15 to 1-09 success over Wicklow at Cusack Park.

Former All-Star Dessie Dolan proved to be the Lake county's key man. He pointed six times in the opening half.

Wicklow still led at the break thanks to a Leighton Glynn goal, but Dolan helped his side back in front with three telling overs in the second half.

Impressive Louth mustered up their third straight victory as they had ten players on the scoresheet in a 0-20 to 2-06 hammering of Sligo at Dundalk.

Sligo had to wait until the 22nd-minute before posting their first score. The Wee county were 0-07 to no score after 17 minutes, and 0-10 to 0-02 in front at half time. Louth's top scorers were Christy Grimes and Darren Clarke, who bagged 0-03 each (0-01f each), while John Neary, John O’Brien, Aaron Hoey and JP Rooney got a point apiece. Sean Davey and Kenneth Sweeney were on target for the visitors.

Louth continued their dominance into the second half with the day's top scorer Trevor O'Brien, who notched 0-04 in all, sending over three points in a six-minute burst. Sligo, now winless after their opening three league games, grabbed two late consolation goals through Brian Curran (59 minutes) and Benny
O'Reilly (71).

Left corner forward Mark Dougan scored a brace of goals as Antrim ran out 2-13 to 0-08 winners over a weak Waterford team at Casement Park.

Dougan struck a 14th-minute penalty to set the Saffrons on their way. Right Corner forward Paddy Cunningham (0-05) and centre forward Brendan Herron (0-03) kicked some impressive points.

At Kingspan Breffni Park, Tipperary hit the closing four points of their clash with Cavan but still ended up on the losing side - 1-09 to 0-13.

Tipp were aided by an early own goal by Cavan full-back Cathal Collins, who deflected the ball into his own net after a shot from Brian Coen, as the Munster men led 1-04 to 0-05 at half time.

Jason O'Reilly then hit three frees to put Cavan in front. In all, the home side hit eight unanswered points during the early part of the second half to push well clear. Cavan man of the match Finbarr Reilly ran his personal tally up to nine points.

Tipp substitutes Mark Peters and Aidan Fitzgerald grabbed two points apiece in the closing quarter-hour to ensure a nervy ending for Cavan, but the Breffni boys held on.
