The GAA will hold an investigation into the scenes of violence that marred yesterday's NFL Division 1A game between Dublin and Tyrone in Healy Park.
The game, which saw fourteen yellow cards and four sendings off, began in a violent vein with a mass-brawl after only four minutes. The violence continued to flare up throughout the game, with one fight finding its way into the stands, directly in front of onlooking fans.
The President of the GAA, Sean Kelly, who has recently returned from a meeting with representatives of the Australian Football Association over the level of violence in this year's International Rules series, announced that the GAA was 'annoyed' by the scenes.
In a statement Kelly said that 'while nobody wants to pre-empt the enquiry into what occurred and nobody wants to apportion blame, a lot of what went on was totally unacceptable, but the matter will be fully investigated and the rules of the Association will be applied'.
Meanwhile, county managers are set to meet with referees next Monday to discuss the season ahead and how referees and managers can help each other. The meeting had been arranged prior to yesterday's match.
