Roddy Collins is to switch codes by becoming manager of the St Joseph's O'Connell Boys Gaelic football team.

The announcement of Collins' first foray into GAA management comes 45 days after his tenure as Shamrock Rovers boss came to a controversial end - just twelve months after his initial appointment.

The 45-year-old, who has also had spells in charge of Bohemians, Carlisle United and Dublin City, was suspended by the Hoops in November as a result of an internal disciplinary decision, and sacked a fortnight later.

Collins' new club, based in Fairview, finished second from bottom in the Dublin Adult Football League Division 6 last season.

Meanwhile, former Dublin footballer Charlie Redmond, winner of an All-Ireland SFC medal in 1995 and three consecutive All-Star awards, has been confirmed as the new manager of Naomh Barrog's senior footballers.

Redmond was most recently in charge of Meath side Dunshaughlin.
