A troubling knee injury has forced Antrim defender Gearoid Adams to quit inter-county football.

The experienced half-back will continue to play for his club St John's but his 12-year run with the Saffrons is at an end. Adams informed Antrim boss Mickey Culbert this week that he did not wish to be considered for the current panel.

Adams, an All-Ireland 'B' title winner with Antrim in 1999, underwent a knee operation in 2003 and has struggled to maintain his form in recent seasons.

Culbert, meanwhile, has added St Gall's dual forward Karl Stewart, who committed himself to hurling in 2005, to his panel for next season.

Antrim's best-known forward Kevin Madden, who missed Portglenone's Antrim SFC final date with St Gall's last week due to a knee injury, is also targeting a return in the New Year.
