The Brisbane Lions have set their sights on Laois defender Colm Begley becoming the latest Irish recruit to Aussie Rules football.

Having been turned down two weeks ago by Tyrone midfielder Sean Cavanagh, Brisbane, whose manager Graeme Allan recently held Rules try-outs in Limerick, have been tracking the movements of versatile half-back Begley.

The 19-year-old is due to line out for Stradbally in Sunday's Laois county SFC final against Portlaoise and is likely to have first come under the Lions' radar during last year's International Rules Youth Series, which was held Down Under.

Begley was outstanding for Hugh Kenny's Ireland schoolboy side last year as they beat Australia in a series for the first time ever, winning by 28 aggregate points.
