Down will also be hoping that a new generation of footballers from the county will lay the foundations for future senior champions, a fine display in seeing off the challenge of Offaly in the semi-final will install them as favourites to lift the trophy.
Watch out for the likes of Peter Fitzpatrick, Martin Clarke and Ciaran Brannigan. The latter, a lightening fast corner-forward who will keep the Mayo defenders on their toes, is a particular danger.
