Brian McIver was last night confirmed as the new manager of the Donegal footballers, ending weeks of speculation.
The Tyrone native received the backing of the Donegal executive last Friday and his appointment to succeed Brian McEniff was approved at last night's meeting of the Donegal county board.
McIver has had considerable success in GAA management in the past. In 2002 he led Derry football champions Ballinderry to the All-Ireland club title.
Although the schoolteacher has no previous inter-county experience he was highly regarded enough to run Mickey Harte close in seeking the then vacant Tyrone position in 2002.
