Antrim's senior footballers could face the wrath of the GAA following their decision to withdraw from this weekend's Tommy Murphy Cup second round clash with Tipperary.

The Antrim County Board took the regrettable decision to withdraw from this Saturday's clash in Thurles due to a full club hurling fixture list, injuries and players on holidays.

A statement from the Antrim County Board confirmed: "Due to club hurling championships this weekend, injuries and players on holidays, Antrim are unable to field a team against Tipperary in the Tommy Murphy Cup this coming Saturday."

Antrim spokesman Terry Cormican, speaking to www.hoganstand.com, revealed that Antrim were prepared to play the original fixture which was scheduled for last month, but following Tipperary's successful appeal to have the game deferred, they were now unable to fulfil the new date.

Cormican also revealed that the Antrim County Board would contest any sanction imposed upon them.

The GAA could withhold their share of revenue from this year's Championship qualifiers, which could be somewhere in the region of €30,000.
