Gary Ruane is a surprise inclusion in Mayo's starting XV for Sunday's Bank of Ireland Connacht Senior Football Championship semi-final against Roscommon at Hyde Park.

Ruane missed the entire league campaign due to injury, however, manager John Maughan has selected the man who captained last year's All-Ireland finalists in his full-back line.

Maughan hands a Championship debut to Shane Fitzmaurice in midfield and there's a rare start for Billy Joe Padden at full-forward.

As expected, Peadar Gardiner misses out due to ligament damage.

Mayo: D Clarke; K Higgins, D Heaney, G Ruane; C Moran, J Nallen, G Mullins; R McGarrity, S Fitzmaurice; A Moran, C McDonald, A Dillon; C Mortimer, BJ Padden, S Carolan.
