Armagh restored faith in the Orchard County doubters with an emphatic 1-11 to 0-04 victory over Galway.

A dominant defence prevented Galway from scoring for 35 minutes in what was a windswept Crossmaglen.

Galway took the lead through two points from Michael and Paul Meehan, but Armagh's offensive campaign was kick-started by a Brian Mallon goal on 19 minutes.

Paul McGrane whipped in a long ball from the right and Ronan Clarke flicked the ball onto Mallon and with an outstretched left foot he slid the ball into the back of the net.

Steven McDonnell scored four points and Philip Loughran, McGrane, and substitutes Garth Swift and Gregory Loughran each added a point to earn Armagh their first National League points.

Matthew Clancy and Sean Armstrong replied for Galway but they had no answer to a Kieran McGeeney inspired Armagh.
