Kerry's star midfielder Darragh Ó Sé has been ruled of the Bank of Ireland All-Ireland Senior Football Championship final against Mayo on September 26.
Ó Sé was substituted in the 22nd minute of the Kingdom's convincing 1-17 to 1-11 semi-final victory over Derry at Croke Park yesterday following a collision with Johnny McBride.
He was taken to hospital after the game for an x-ray on his foot and Kerry's worst fears were realised today when it was confirmed that the An Ghaeltacht player had suffered a broken metatarsal. He will be out of action for between four and six weeks.
Ó Sé's absence is a huge blow for Jack O'Connor's men, with defender Séamus Moynihan still a major doubt for the game. The inspirational Moynihan has not played for Kerry since injuring his ankle in a club game two months ago.
Moynihan, though, is expected to resume training with the Kerry squad this week.
