Leitrim narrowly missed out on causing a major upset as Roscommon were forced to stage a late rally at Carrick on Shannon in order to take their Connacht Football Championship clash to a replay.

After a fiercely contested first half, Roscommon took a 0-07 to 0-04 into the break, thanks in the most part to a four point haul from the lively Frankie Dolan and only two late Leitrim points from Johnny Goldrick and Fintan McBrien kept the score respectable.

However, Leitrim took the game to their opponents following the restart and when they were awarded a penalty on the 44th minute after Shane Curran was penalised for over-holding, Michael Foley found the back of the net to haul his side right back into the match.

Trailing by 1-09 to 0-10 with just ten minutes to go, Roscommon dug deep and points from Dolan, Francie Grehan and an outstanding effort from Seamus O’Neill put them in front, before Leitrim’s Barry Prior scored a fine injury-time equaliser to set up the replay.
