The Limerick County board's hopes of securing a lucrative sponsorship deal with energy drinks brand Red Bull have been dashed by Croke Park.
With a four-year deal with Moran's Red Cow Hotel having recently ended, Limerick officials were negotiating a new deal with Red Bull which was believed to be worth almost E1 million over a three-year period.
Board Chairman Pat Fitzgerald said that while they had agreed in principle with Red Bull to a three-year sponsorship, they had not yet made an official presentation to headquarters. Red Bull this year sponsored the All-Ireland handball championships.
Limerick are now expected to renew their sponsorship with Moran's Red Cow Hotel after proprietor Tom Moran indicated that he would be willing to help out.
