Armagh's Steven McDonnell and Kilkenny's JJ Delaney were crowned SEAT Footballer and Hurler of the Year respectively at the Gaelic Players Association awards in Dublin's Burlington Hotel last night.
Over 800 people attended the glittering ceremony in which Armagh forward McDonnell pipped a trio of Tyrone nominees, namely, Peter Canavan, Sean Cavanagh and Philip Jordan to drive away in a new SEAT car. The 24-year-old was instrumental in Armagh's march to a second successive All-Ireland final, while he also shone on the recent International Rules tour to Australia.
Kilkenny half back Delaney was also presented with a new SEAT car following a hugely successful All-Ireland winning year with the Cats. He scooped the award ahead of team-mates Eddie Brennan and Noel Hickey and Cork's Setanta Ó hAilpín.
The Most Improved Team of the Year went to the footballers of Limerick, who were narrowly beaten in the Munster final by Kerry before falling in round four of the qualifiers to Armagh.
