Geraghty hit with huge suspension

Meath county footballer Graham Geraghty has been suspended for an amazing 48 weeks by the County board for alleged physical and verbal abuse of a referee in a county championship match.

Geraghty is alleged to have followed referee, Jim Smith, at the end of a Championship game between Senchelstown and Ballivor in early August, Senchelstown lost the game, and Geraghty was sent off for two yellow cards. At the end of the game, it's alleged that Geraghty followed the referee off the pitch and physically and verbally abused him.

It is unclear whether Geraghty will make an appeal, but if he does not, then he will be out of action until August of 2004.
