Claffey calls it a day

One of Offaly's longest serving inter-county footballers has today confirmed his retirement with Vinny Claffey hanging up his boots after 17 years of championship action. Claffey, who plays his club football for Doon, was a pivotal member of Offaly's Leinster championship winning team in 1997 and the side which won it's first ever league title in 1998.

Claffey's last match in Offaly colours was against Roscommon last Saturday night when the Connacht side edged it by 1-20 to 1-15 after extra time.
