Donnellan on the bench for Galway

Michael Donnellan is not named in the starting 15 for Galway’s Connacht football championship opener with Roscommon at Pearse Stadium on Sunday. Instead Donnellan is named among the substitutes after returning from an injury lay-off.

Manager John O’Mahony has handed three players their senior championship debuts. Defender Michael Comer and forwards Derry O'Brien and Michael Meehan are the only changes in personnel from the team that beat Roscommon in the same fixture a year ago.

Roscommon have named two vacancies at left corner back and right corner forward. Raymond Cox is almost certainly ruled out of the corner back position, but his replacement, John Whyte, is also carrying an injury. Their regular corner forward star Nigel Dineen is still nursing an ankle injury but it's expected that he will have recovered in time for the throw-in.
