The Mayo County Board have confirmed that star forward Kieran McDonald has quit the county's senior football team.
McDonald has had a somewhat uneasy relationship with the Mayo team of late with rumours abounding that he would quit the panel. That speculation had previously been rubbished by the County Board, however they today released a statement confirming the Crossmolina man's departure.
Team manager John Maughan has expressed his disappointment at the development.
Reports suggest that McDonald's decision was prompted by abuse that he and members of his family were subjected to after the county's Allianz National Football League game against Fermanagh.
