Armagh & Laois maintain their unbeaten run in the Division 1 of the Allianz Football league with victories against Donegal & Mayo respectively this afternoon.
In Division 1A, the All Ireland champions, courtesy of seven unanswered points in the second half had a six point winning margin, at Ballybofey. Oisin McConville earlier had scored a penalty. Donegal did make a game of it and an Adrian Sweeney conversion from the spot in the first half gave them hope. But Armagh's strong finish condemned Brian McEniff's men to their third straight defeat in the league.
Laois had only a point to spare over Mayo at Ballinrobe and so propel Mick O'Dwyer's outfit to the top of Division 1B. The final score was 1-9-1-8.
Galway, short many of their regulars were too strong for Kerry at Salthill. Michael Meehan was particularly impressive for the westerners. The Kerry performance was well below par, with Declan Quill the only notable player on form. Their situation was not helped by the sending off Colm Cooper in the second half. Galway eventually ran out winners 1-13-0-9.
An Eoin Mulligan missed penalty for Tyrone proved costly, as Dublin held their nerve to record a 0-13-0-12 victory at Parnell Park. With Ciaran Whelan dominant in midfield, Dublin always had the upper hand, but they needed a late point from sub Liam Og O'heineachain to seal victory.
Roscommon recovered from last week's mauling against Kerry, by edging out Cork, 1-12-1-11 at Dr Hyde Park . A Michael Cronin goal early on gave the rebel county an early advantage, but Roscommon fought their way back into the match. With Frankie Dolan beginning to exert his influence, the home side began to get a foothold and a second half goal from Lynch enabled Tommy Carr's men to pick up their second win of the campaign.
Meath got their first win in Division 1B, as they saw off neighbours, Kildare by a point 0-13-0-12 at Navan. The home side opened the scoring after thirty seconds with a point from Daithi Regan. With some queationable decisions going their way, the Royals led by three points at half time. However Kildare upped the pace after the break and held Meath scoreless for 20 minutes. But they couldn't pull clear and Meath showed their resiliance and an Evan Kelly point in the last minute gave them victory.
Sligo also got off the mark in Division 1B, but they needed an injury time pint from Mark Brehony to see of a determined Down at Newry on a scoreline of 1-11-1-10. In the other match in the Division, Fermanagh ended Cavan's winning run at Enniskillen by virtue of a two point win, 1-11-1-09
