Monaghan County chairman Gary Carville has lodged an official protest with the GAC over the manner in which the county’s senior football team’s NFL Division 2B match against Derry was called off a mere 20 minutes before the scheduled throw-in in Ballinascreen on Sunday.
Monaghan are not questioning the decision of the referee but claim regulations concerning such cancellations were not adhered to. Ultimately though, the protest is likely to be purely academic and the game will have to be re-fixed. The most likely date for playing the match is February 23rd, however, that could conflict with the Ulster Council’s plans to play the Dr McKenna Cup final between Monaghan and Tyrone on that date.
