Preparations for hurling and football's national leagues continued today with a host of counties involved in competitive action.
The senior football teams of Kildare and Longford will meet in the final of Leinster's O'Byrne Cup after they recorded victories over Dublin and Wexford respectively. Kildare beat Dublin by 0-13 to 1-09 in Portmarnock, while Longford overcame Wexford on a 4-04 to 0-12 scoreline in Gorey.
In Connacht football's FBD League, college side GMIT overcame Sligo by 2-09 to 1-10 at Moycullen, and in Kilglass Derek Moran converted a first-half penalty to help Roscommon on their way to a 1-12 to 0-08 win over Leitrim.
Former Meath star Colm Coyle got his managerial reign in Monaghan off to a positive start when the Farney County beat Derry 2-12 to 0-11 at Ballinascreen. In today's other Dr McKenna Cup quarter-final in Ulster, Tyrone easily saw off Antrim 3-16 to 2-08 at Coalisland.
In Munster, Clare qualified to meet Tipperary in the McGrath Cup final when they beat Limerick 0-10 to 1-06 at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick.
Meanwhile, in the Walsh Cup hurling tournament, Dublin beat Down 3-19 to 1-14 at Portmarnock - the curtain-raiser to the O'Byrne Cup tie.
