Deposed Tyrone football manager Eugene McKenna has been issued a public apology by county chairman Liam Nelis following the prolonged saga that saw Mickey Harte named as the county's new boss. Nelis, speaking at a press conference to introduce Harte this afternoon – apologised to McKenna and his family for the hurt and anxiety they have suffered as a result of the recent management saga in the county.

McKenna had served The Red Hand County well as joint-manager with Art McRory, but his position was thrown into confusion when McRory resigned on October 2 because of health problems, just three weeks after accepting a new contract. The Tyrone County Board responded by declaring the position vacant despite McKenna's interest in staying on, and following several applications (including McKenna's), Errigal Ciaran manager Harte was given the job.

Harte, who guided Errigal Ciaran to the county title this year, confirmed today that Galbally's Paddy Tally will be his assistant.
