Cork centre-half forward Joe Kavanagh was a relieved man following the Rebel County's eventual three point win over Mayo in the first of the Bank of Ireland All-Ireland quarter-final at scorching Croke Park. Temperatures pitch side reached the high 20s as supporters from Cork, Mayo, Donegal and Dublin basked in the welcomed Bank Holiday sunshine, but Kavanagh revealed it was a different scenario for the players.
Speaking to RTÉ Radio 1's Morning Ireland, the Cork star insisted: "It's a big pitch but the main thing today was the heat. The heat was unreal and you could probably tell again in the second-half we used up our full 20 again, and we're probably lucky we didn't bring on an extra one. It was always going to be a day like that where you're going to use all your substitutes but luckily enough we're into a semi-final against Kerry but we'll have to up the performance."
