The GAA's Munster Council met this evening in Adare to discuss Sunday's Munster football final during which Cork used 21 players during their demolition of Tipperary. The Council studied referee Michael Monaghan's report and discussions, which could decide the destination of this year's Munster football title, are still ongoing with a decision expected early on Wednesday morning.
Time is not on their side though as Tipperary are scheduled to meet Mayo this weekend in the qualifying series, while specualtion has been mounting that Cork could forfeit the game thereby forfeiting their Munster title.
Most Tipp players are believed to be against stripping Cork of their first provincial title in three years, with goalkeeper Philly Ryan insisting he wants to know nothing about a forfeit as the team turn their attention to the Mayo clash. Speaking to The Star, Ryan revealed: "Look, they destroyed us fair and square. No player would take a forfeit or anything like it after getting a beating like that. Certainly most of our camp have no interest in pursuing the matter any further."
He added: "As far we're concerned, Mayo is our next game. That game is taking place at the weekend and we have to get our heads right for it. We are back training tonight and the heads will be clear after that. But as far as getting the Munster final result, we have no interest. How could we? They were all over us. Bottom line – Mayo next weekend. We'll have to pick it up."
