Offaly must plan for their Bank of Ireland All-Ireland football qualifier against Limerick this weekend without the services of Roy Malone, who has been suspended for eight weeks following an incident after the Leinster semi-final replay against Kildare. Malone and team-mate James Grennan were both reported by match referee Brendan Gorman after Offaly players confronted the Armagh official as he left the pitch.
Gardaí had to intervene and escort Gorman from the field with Offaly visibly incensed by their 3-09 to 1-14 extra-time defeat. Gorman included the unsavoury incident in his match report, and following a meeting of the Games Administration Committee on Wednesday night, Malone was dealt a hefty two month suspension.
However, no suspension was imposed on Grennan who had also been called to explain his actions on that day.
