GAA Legend Micheál Ó Sé dies

Mr. Micheál Ó Sé, brother of Kerry trainer Paidí Ó Sé, and father of current Kerry footballers, Dara, Tomás and Marc has died suddenly at his home in Ventry this afternoon.

In a statement, the GAA President Mr. Sean McCague expressed his shock and sadness at the death of Mr. Ó Sé. He said: "Micheál Ó Sé was a Kerry Junior All- Ireland medal winner, coming from a family that is one of the most notable GAA families in the history of the Association. He won an All- Ireland Junior medal and his brothers, Paidí won eight Senior All- Irelands and Tom won a Minor All Ireland. His sons' Dara and Tomás are the recipients of Senior All Ireland medals and Fergal holds a Junior medal. His first cousin, Tom Long also holds two Senior All Ireland medals."

Mr. McCague also said that all in the GAA are saddened at the untimely and early death of a great GAA man and the massive and grievous loss to a great sporting family. He expressed his condolences on behalf of everybody in the GAA to Micheál's wife Joan, to his son's Fergal, Dara, Tomás and Marc - who played in the drawn game against Cork in Killarney on Sunday – and his brother Tom and mother Beatrice.

Kerry's GAA Board has requested the Munster Council of the GAA to postpone Saturday's replay. It's understood that no decision has been made.
