Tyrone and Cavan secured easy victories in today's Allianz National Football League Division One semi-finals. Tyrone totally outclassed defending champions Mayo with a convincing 3-12 to 0-11 win in Enniskillen, while Cavan overcame Roscommon by a convincing 5-13 to 3-12 at Cusack Park in Mullingar.
Tyrone totally outclassed Mayo in their semi-final with a performance of superb support play and clinical execution. The Ulster side led 1-08 to 0-04 at half-time after blitzing Mayo with the speed of their play. Two goals from Stephen O'Neill and Colin Holmes early in the second half killed off the Connacht side, and although Mayo added six points in the last fifteen minutes as Tyrone eased off, it was far too little too late as Tyrone finished with a ten-point winning margin.
In Mullingar, Cavan turned on the style as their forwards destroyed the Roscommon full-back line in the first half with a goal blitz. Leading 3-08 to 2-05 at the break, Cavan then took control in the second half. Dominant at midfield, assured in defence and razor sharp in attack, Cavan never looked likely to lose to their Western counterparts. Nigel Dineen scored a third goal for Roscommon but goals from Peter Reilly and Mickey Graham ensured a Cavan victory.
In the Division Two semi-finals, Kerry got revenge over Meath for their humiliation in last year's All-Ireland semi-final with a 0-11 to 0-08 victory, while Laois defeated Armagh by 0-12 to 0-08.
