Honours even at Hyde Park

Roscommon drew with All-Ireland champions Galway in their rescheduled National Football League Division 1A game at Hyde Park this afternoon. The game, which was supposed to have been played last week but was postponed after the death of Roscommon player Gerard Michael Grogan, finished level at 3-11 apiece.

The sides had gone in at the break level at 1-5 to 1-5, but Roscommon went in front with two points from Stephen Lohan and one from Nigel Dineen three minutes into the second half. Joe Bergin and Padraig Joyce replied for Galway before Jonathan Dunning fired past the Galway keeper to leave the score at 2-8 to 1-7. Inside a minute of Dunning’s goal, Derek Savage rattled the back of the Roscommon net, and while Jarlath Egan pointed for the home side, Galway went ahead with scores from Matthew Clancy, Ja Fallon, Derek Savage and Joe Bergin.

A third goal for Galway by Padraig Joyce was equalised by Jonathan Dunning before Roscommon got an equalising point from Gary Cox on the stroke of full-time.
