Meath recorded their first win in the NFL Division 2B with a 0-14 to 1-07 victory over Tipperary at Ard Finnan this afternoon. The beaten All-Ireland finalists were ahead by 0-08 to 0-05 at the break, despite having influential defender Hank Traynor stretchered off with an ankle injury. However, the outcome of the game was sealed when Tipperary's Sean Maher was sent-off for a second bookable offence with 25 minutes remaining.
Tipp's dual star Brendan Cummins opened his account with a point from play close to the interval, but a largely forgettable second half was dominated by Leitrim referee Sean McCartan, who issued nine yellow cards in a 20 minute spell, two of those to Maher.
Down to 14 men for the final 25 minutes, Tipperary understandably found the going tough, but Cummins did manage a late consolation goal when goal Cormac Sullivan fumbled a free into his own net three minutes from full time.
