National Football League round-up

Wexford defeated Waterford by 0-10 to 1-5 in a tightly contested National Allianz Football League Division Two B game at Dungarvan this afternoon.

The away side led by 0-05 to 0-03 at half time despite playing against a very strong wind, but Waterford took the lead briefly two minutes after the restart when Frannie Halpin scored a brilliant goal following a 30-yard run and lay-off by Gary Hurney.

A brace of Lee O’Brien points and a point from full-forward John Hegarty saw Wexford regain the lead entering the final quarter but despite a brief revival by the home side, Wexford hung on for the win.

Elsewhere in Division Two B, Down defeated Fermanagh by 0-17 to 0-13 at Ballykinler, while Laois and Tipperary finished all square at 0-10 to 1-07 in Portarlington.

In Division Two A, Kerry overcame Wicklow by 1-15 to 0-12 in Killarney, Antrim hammered London by 1-19 to 0-05 at Ruislip and Armagh beat Louth by 1-14 to 0-13 in Carrickcruppin.

In the Walsh Cup Senior Hurling semi-final Kilkenny beat Meath by 0-16 to 0-10, while Wicklow defeated Carlow by 3-11 to 0-13.

The weather played havoc with many of the Football League fixtures today with all of the Division One A games (Tyrone v Roscomon, Offaly v Dublin, Westmeath v Cork and Donegal v Galway) called off. The Division One B games between Sligo/Mayo, Cavan/Kildare and Clare/Derry were also postponed. In Division Two B, Longford’s game against Carlow was also called off, as was the clash between Monaghan and Meath in Clones.

All today's postponed National League games have been rescheduled for the weekend of the 23rd and 24th of February.
