Attempts to remove the controversial Rule 21, which prevents members of the Royal Ulster Constabulary and British Army members from joining the GAA, received a setback today, when it was announced that the county boards of Armagh and Derry had voted to retain the rule.
County board meetings last night held votes on the proposed rule change, and it is understood that the two counties voted by significant majorities to retain Rule 21. Derry PRO Gerry Donnelly said: "It was a clear cut decision and the Derry delegates at the special congress in Dublin, on November 17th, will cast their votes accordingly."
