Donnellans suffer mixed fortunes

Galway have brought Michael Donnellan, Tommy Joyce and Richie and Gary Fahy into the team for the Connacht senior football championship quarter-final against Roscommon. They replace Tomas Meehan, Kieran Fitzgerald, Lorcan O'Collarain and Shay Walsh. Although Michael Donnellan withdrew from the squad before the first round game with Leitrim after his brother was told that he would not be playing from the start, there is still no place in the starting fifteen for John Donnellan. Roscommon have delayed naming the team because they have so many injury worries.

Derry are set to introduce new blood for their Ulster SFC game against Antrim. Brothers Gareth and Fergal Doherty along with Kevin McCloy and Paul Murphy all make their championship debuts for Derry at Celtic Park. Only Anthony Tohill and Gary Coleman remain from Derry’s All-Ireland winning team of 1993.

James Hickey makes his championship debut at left corner forward in place of Pat Nolan on the Carlow team to play Kildare at Croke Park. Mick O’Dwyer has included youngsters Kenny Duane, Ronan Sweeney Martin Ryan and Patsy Murray in the Kildare starting line-up.
