The Donnellan brothers, Michael and John, have resolved their dispute with Galway football manager John O'Mahony and returned to training tonight. The dispute arose ahead of last weekend's clash with Letrim and was believed to have been caused by O'Mahony dropping John from the Galway line-up. Both players were missing from last week's training session and did not attend the weekend victory over Leitrim in the Championship.
However, both players trained with the rest of the squad at Tuam Stadium tonight, ending the controversy surrounding their absence from last week's session.
One person who will be delighted to see the Donnellans return is last year's captain Padraig Joyce. "Personally, I’m good friends with both of them so I hope they do come back because it would be great for Galway and it would also be great for the supporters to see Michael and John back. Michael is probably the best footballer in the country at the moment. He’s had a super league campaign and he’s put a big effort put in so I just hope it doesn’t go to waste," he told RTÉ reporter Brian Carthy earlier today.
"I’ve been playing football with Michael since I was 15 and I have a great understanding with him and I know where to go when he gets the ball and vice versa so it would be great to see him back because however far we’re going to go in the championship this year, we’ll have a better chance with the Donnellans than without them," he added.
